The Ancestral Temple

Founded during Earlier Song Dynasty in 11 century, the Ancestral Temple is the most important place in Guangdong Province dedicated to the God of the North (Běi Dì in Chinese), whose statue graces the Main Hall.

When you enter the front gate, the first attraction you will see is the Wong Feihung Memorial Hall. Wong Feihung is not only respected for his mastery in Kung fu but also for he is an experienced doctor with great reputation in Guangdong. You will see thousands related cultural relics and film works in the hall to know more about this legendary master.

On your left is Ye Wen (Ip Man) Memorial Hall which displays introductions, art works and photos about Ye as well as the renowned Wing Chun. Ip Man is the Kung fu master of Bruce Lee.

The Ancestral Temple is formed by a series of buildings such as Bountiful Blessings Stage (Wanfu Tai), Divine Manifestation Archway (Lingying Paifang), Bell & Drum Tower (Zhonggu Lou), the Three Doors (San Men), the Front Hall (Qian Dian) and the Main Hall (Zheng Dian). The above buildings strongly feature Cantonese architectural, empaistic and painting characters.

The Ancestral Temple is also believed to be the place where Cantonese Opera thrived and there are performances on Saturday and Sunday afternoon (depends on season but usually between 13:30-15:30) and during festivals.
