Zhaohushan National Forest Park locates 8 kilometers northeast of the urban area of Haiyang City away from Yantai. The park is 6.1 kilometers long from east to west, and 5.2 kilometers wide from south to north, with a total area of 762.7 hectares. The main peak of the mountain is 559.7 meters above the sea level. It is a comprehensive park integrating the ecology, religion, historic sites, and folk custom together. It is the National 4A Class Scenic Spot.
Main attractions in Zhaohushan National Forest Park
Zhaohushan National Forest Park's pleasant climate has nurtured abundant wildlife resources. The park has more than 200 species of the woody plants, more than 400 species of the herbs, and 168 species of wild animals, which becomes a natural ecological paradise. During the summer, various flowers are blooming alongside the brook, which is very spectacular.
Guanyin Peak got the name since it looks like the statue of Guanyin bodhisattva from afar. It is the largest natural Guanyin Buddha statue in the world, with a height of more than 100 meters. From the distance, it looks like the Guanyin Buddha folds her hands together and prays for the world.
There is an old lagerstroemia tree in the park, also commonly known as "itchy tree", which has a history of more than 400 years and is very rare. During the flowering season in October, the whole tree is full of red flowers, which is very spectacular for photography.
Wolong Lake was completed in 1982, with a total storage capacity of 5 million cubic meters. There is a stone arch bridge over the lake, with the stone status of lion and tiger. The bridge is 175 meters long and 7.5 meters wide.
Longmen Eighteen Pools consist of eighteen water pools. The entire water system stretches for nearly ten kilometers. Each pool is unique and has its own beautiful legends. The water is very clear containing rich in minerals, which is beneficial for the humans.
The entire mountain is distributed with large-scale bamboo forest, which is another popular attractive spot in the park. The evergreen bamboo forest is more than 20 meters high, which is very spectacular.
Zhaohushan National Forest Park is an ideal tourist resort for sightseeing and leisure. Every year, there are many tourism festivals held in the park. The Zhaohushan Sakura Festival and the Spring Outing Festival are held in May annually. The summer camp festival is held in July. The Zhaohushan Folk Custom Tourism Festival is held in September and December. In October, the Golden Autumn Tourism Event is held each year.
