As the capital city of Guizhou, Guiyang is located at the east of the Yungui Plateau and on the north bank of the Nanming River, which is a branch of the Wu River. It belongs to pleasant moist subtropical climate with abundant sunlight and ample rainfall. It is neither too hot in summer nor too cold in winter. The average temperature throughout the year of Guiyang is 15℃. July is the hottest month, and the average temperature is 24℃; January is the coldest one, and the average temperature is 4.6℃. The agreeable climate makes it a cozy city for living.

Its genial year-around weather contributes a lot to its popularity among travelers. Spring, summer and autumn are all the best time to drop in Guiyang. The best seasons for visiting the Huangguoshu Waterfall near Guiyang are summer and autumn when the scenery is the most splendid. However, due to the changeful weather on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, it is recommended to take rain wear along with you whenever you go out. Mornings and evenings can often be cold, so a windproof coat is necessary.

If you are lucky enough to visit in March or April, you can experience a lot of traditional Miao festivals. From April 30 to May 7 there is the Baiyun National Kites Festival and from June to August is the Hongfeng Lake Tourism Festival, lasting nearly two months.
