Overview

Guiyang, capital city of Guizhou Province, is situated on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau where Nanming River winds across. Guiyang is a city of abundance since the ancient times. It serves as the political center, economic center, and culture center of Guizhou Province. Famous for splendid natural landscapes and profound cultural deposit, Guiyang has been praised as a best place to spend summer vacation.

 

Guiyang is a famous city with a long history. Its long-run development began as a military fortress to defense invasion in Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368). It became a superior prefecture, been set as the administrative center and commercial center in Southwestern until Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), given the current name “Guiyang”. After 1949, Guiyang became an industrial base and accelerates its economic development. The golden period of developing comes from 1990s.

 

The total area of Guiyang is 8034 square kilometers with a population of 4.32 million by the end of 2011, consisting of 23 different minorities. The most populous one is the Miao people, in addition to the ethnic Han. Guiyang has a four-season, humid subtropical climate, tempered by its low latitude and high elevation. It has fairly mild winters, very warm summers and a monsoon season. Extreme temperatures are rare. Rainy day comes common throughout the year, with occasional flurries in winter. During summer there are pleasant breezes, plenty of rains and comfortable temperatures, regarded as the best season to tour to Guiyang by tourists.

 

Guiyang is a famous tourist destination. The city embodies beauty of nature as well as valuable cultural relics and historical buildings.
