Henan Province is home to China’s oldest surviving Buddhist temples and one of the country’s most astonishing collections of Buddhist carvings, the Longmen Grottoes.

Henan is also known for the Shaolin Temple,which is a legendary institution where the Martial art and Buddhism were found an unlikely, but powerful combination. Henan is also home to the excellent walled town of Kaifeng and the 1000-year-old craft of woodblock printing from the town of Zhuxian.

  • Longmen Grottoes
    The ravaged grottoes at Longmen constitute one of China’s handful of surviving masterpieces of Buddhist rock carving. A sutra in stone, the epic achievement of the Longmen Grottoes was commenced by chisellers from the Northern Wei dynasty after the capital relocated here from Datong in the year 494. Over the next two centuries, more than 100,000 images and statues of Buddha and his disciples emerged from over a kilometer of limestone cliff wall along the Yi River.
  • Shaolin Temple
    Shaolin Temple, surrounded by Song Mountain from one side and Dengfeng city from the other side, is the cradle of Chinese Zen Buddhism and Chinese Kong Fu. Kong Fu is based on the movements of animals, insects and some mythological figures. The fame of the Temple attracts martial arts clubs and fans from all around the world.
  • Kaifeng
    More than any other of Henan's ancient capitals, Kaifeng has made an effort to recall its former grandeur. The walled town has character; you may have to squint a bit and sift the reproductions from its genuine historical narrative, but the city still offers up an intriguing display of age-old charm, magnificent market food and relics from its long history. In Kaifeng you won’t see soaring skyscrapers, the reason is that high buildings require deep foundations which are prohibited, for fear of destroying the ancient northern Song dynasty city below.
  • Yuntai Mountain
    Yuntai Mountain is a popular domestic tourist getaway located in a UNESCO World Geological Park. It boasts an area of 240 square kilometers, surrounded by marvelous mountains, serene valley, luscious forest, running waterfalls, clear pools, and plunging springs. Because of this characteristic landform and climate, Yuntai Mountain enjoys a large area of primitive forest with more than 500 kinds of exotic flower and rare herbs grown. It ranks as a 5A scenic area, the highest rank awarded by the China National Tourism Administration.
  • Anyang Yin Ruins
    Yinxu is an UNESCO World Heritage Site, located near the modern city of Anyang. At the "Ruins of Yin" the ancient oracle bones and oracle bone script, with the first Chinese writing were found. The archeological remnants known as Yinxu represent the ancient city of Yin, the last capital of China's Shang dynasty.
  • The Birthplace of the Yellow Emperor
    Xinzheng in Henan province is the birthplace of Xuanyuan, also known as the Yellow Emperor, the earliest ancestor of Chinese people. The first temple was built in the time of Han Dynasty and was repaired in successive dynasties. With the theme "The Root of the Chinese Nation", the scenic spot constitutes a magnificent picture of "Heaven, Earth and the Mankind".
  • Millennium City Park
    Millennium City Park is a large scale historical cultural theme park, located in western shore of the beautiful Longting Lake in Kaifeng. The Park is a valuable life drawing of social life, customs and building infrastructure of Kaifeng ancient city in the times of Northern Song Dynasty. Walking here will make you feel like you have returned in time one thousand years ago.

Most Popular Henan tours
Arrive at the ancient city of Anyang and tour the ruins of Yinxu. This is the place where the oracle bone script – the earliest Chinese writing was discovered. Continue the trip to Kaifeng; enjoy the tour of Millennium Theme Park, the Iron Pagoda and Dragon Pavilion. Finish the Kaifeng tour with a visit to Jewish descendant’s house. The next day, visit Shaolin Temple, learn the authentic Chinese Kong Fu and see the Pagoda Forest. The last stop is the UNESCO World Heritage site Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang. It took more than 400 years to finish the construction of 2,345 caves with more than 100,000 statues .

ZHENGZHOU
As an outstanding tourist city and one of the eight Chinese ancient cities, Zhengzhou is always the first stop of any tour of Henan.
Arrive to Beijing and see the famous: Hutongs, Great Wall, Temple of Heaven, Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace. Continue the trip to Dengfeng, the birthplace of Chinese Kong Fu. Enjoy the whole day training at the Kong Fu School and then visit the White Horse Temple. Next stop are the Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang. The construction of the famous Buddhist statues here took more than 400 years. The final stop will be Xi’an, with its: Terracotta Army Museum, Wild Goose Pagoda, Xi’an City Walls and the Great Mosque.
