Kunming Travel Season Tips

Kunming is located in the low-latitude monsoon climate zone. It is never too cold in winter or too hot in summer, and flowers bloom all year round, thus Kunming is given the nickname "Spring City". Kunming has abundant rainfall, and the rainy season lasts from May to October.

Spring comes in March and lasts to May. It is normally cool and dry. Summer from June to September is wet but not that hot compare to other Chinese Southern cities. About 60% of the annual rainfall concentrates in summer. The hottest month is July. The daily high temperature generally ranges between 21 °C and 27 °C. Taking umbrella with you is advised. Autumn is from October to November. The weather is pleasant, dry and cool, with much less rainfall than in summer. The weather is changeable, and temperature may drop suddenly. Winter lasting from December to February is generally mild and sunny. It rarely snows in Kunming. The average low and high temperature is 4 °C and 11 °C in December, 2 °C and 9 °C  in January, and 3 °C and 11 °C in February.

The all year around mild weather makes Kunming a great place to travel from January to December. However, a lot of tourists prefer the travel from March to October, when there are many festivals and events being held.
