Grandview Park highlights
Grand View Pavilion built in 1890 is the core part of the park. The south gate of the pavilion faces to the Dianchi Lake, and the roofs of the pavilion were painted in golden, thus the pavilion looks elegant among the verdant trees.
On both sides of the south gate situated the couplet written by Sun Ranweng (1684-1763, a famous scholar in Qing Dynasty); this couplet of 180 Chinese characters is believed to be the longest antithetical couplet in the world and one of the most valued cultural treasures of Yunnan. The first part (the right part) of the couplet describes the beautiful and magnificent natural sceneries around Kunming in an optimistic mood, while the second part (the left part) reviews the 2,000 years' history of Yunnan Area.
On the third floor of the pavilion, you could have a panoramic view of Dianchi Lake and the Western Hills.
