Kashgar Travel Season Tips

Kashgar is located west of the Taklamakan Desert at the feet of the Tian Shan mountain range, about 4,232ft above sea level. The annual average temperature is 11ºC. Kashgar has a very dry weather with annual precipitation of only 121 millimeters and average annual precipitation of 50mm. The climate in Kashgar belongs to the continental arid climate with rich sunshine and four distinctive seasons. Weather here is comfortable with short and warm winter, long and cool summer. The city enjoys pleasant temperatures in most time of the year. The average temperature of the coolest month of January is -6ºC, and in the hottest month, July, the average temperature is 27ºC.


Kashgar is one of the biggest cities in west China. Legend said that the characters Monk Tangseng and his 3 disciples from the Chinese classic “Journey to the West” once passed through this city on their trip to India. Most of residents here are Uyghur People.


The best time to travel is between August and September, when the sky is blue and there is blossom and fruit on the trees. It is recommended that you wear a light top with long sleeves and a hat for protection from strong UV radiation.


In addition, during the Eid al-Fitr (Muslim calendar October 1st) and Eid al-Adha (Muslim calendar on December 10th) to go Kashgar, tourists can see big Muslim worship activities. The two festival time in Gregorian calendar changes every year.
