Bodhisattva Summit

Bodhisattva Summit is the largest lama monastery in Wutaishan area. With its glorious design and golden roof, the temple looks dazzlingly brilliant and splendid as if it is a royal palace.

Bodhisattva Summit is a temple located on the Lingjiu peak, south of Taihuai town of Xiantong Temple of Wutai Mountain. It was said that Wutai Mountain was the ancient temple of Wenshu Bodhisattva. Legend has it that Wenshu Bodhisattva dwelt in the temple. Therefore, Bodhisattva Peak was once named Zhenrong Temple and Great Wenshu Temple.

Bodhisattva Summit was originally built in the North Wei Dynasty (471-499) and was reconstructed for several times. The monastery was especially favored by emperors Kangxi and Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), who stayed here when making pilgrimages to Wutai. At that time, the ancient temple was rebuilt in Imperial Qing style, allowed the favor of Imperial yellow roof tiles, and put in charge of all other temples on the mountain. Its present buildings and layout therefore remains the traditional style of the Qing Dynasty.
