Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in Hunan announced on September 17th that Yaozizhai Scenic Area - the park’s decade-closed premium outdoor trail - will reopen to domestic and foreign tourists on September 27, World Tourism Day.
As a classic spot in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Yaozizhai lies at the park’s core. It’s famed for its steep sandstone peaks, dense lush forests, and sweeping panoramic views from high vantage points. From here, visitors can overlook iconic sites like Huangshizhai and Golden Whip Stream, with striking vistas of scattered peaks and swirling clouds unfurling below. Long a favorite among hikers and photographers, this trail is cherished for its untamed natural charm and exceptional viewing experience.
Yaozizhai’s closure a decade ago stemmed from two key reasons. First, aging facilities such as trails and guardrails posed safety risks. Second, to align with Zhangjiajie’s ecological protection efforts, the area was closed to reduce human disturbance and aid ecosystem restoration. After 10 years of renovation, the scenic area now boasts upgraded safety facilities, new service stations, and a fully restored ecology. Its reopening on World Tourism Day not only satisfies visitors’ demand for high-quality outdoor scenery but also leverages the occasion to boost regional tourism.
