The 2026 Shanghai Cherry Blossom Festival officially opened at Gucun Park on March 9, running through April 9. This year’s festival features over 16,000 cherry trees across 120 varieties. Covering an area of more than 1,600 mu (about 106 hectares), it remains the largest cherry blossom destination in Shanghai.

For the first time, the park has introduced a “night viewing mode,” using dynamic lighting that adjusts as different varieties bloom, offering visitors a magical evening experience. The festival is a significant draw for inbound tourism, showcasing Shanghai’s vibrant spring culture to international visitors. The festival has also launched a “Cherry Blossom Pass,” which provides tourists with discounts at local shopping malls, hotels, and even international cruise tickets at the nearby Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal.

To ensure a comfortable visit, Gucun Park has implemented “barrier-free” services, including free electric shuttle buses and volunteer assistance for those with mobility needs. Whether enjoying the pink petals by day or the illuminated groves by night, the 2026 Shanghai Cherry Blossom Festival offers a unique window into the city’s seasonal beauty and cultural innovation.
