Ningbo locates in the coastal region, and it belongs to a subtropical monsoon climate. The region is subject to temperate and humid weather. The region has four distinct seasons, which characterized by hot, humid summers and chilly, cloudy and drier winters (with occasional snow). The mean annual temperature of Ningbo is 16.53 °C (61.8 °F), with monthly daily averages ranging from 4.9 °C (40.8 °F) in January to 28.1 °C (82.6 °F) in July. Extremes since 1951 have ranged from -8.8 °C (16 °F) on January 12th, 1955 to 42.1 °C (108 °F) on August 8th, 2013.

 

Ningbo City receives an average annual rainfall of 1,440 millimeters (56.7 in) and is affected by the plum rains of the Asian monsoon in June. From August to October, Ningbo experiences the effects of typhoons, and is often affected by an average 1.8 storms annually.
