The Wudalianchi Nature Reserve has been awarded the Michel Batisse Award at the 4th World Congress of Biosphere Reserves in Lima, Peru, on 19, March.
Wudalianchi Nature Reserve, also called Five Interconnected Lakes, is located in northern part of Heilongjiang province, which is about 380 km from Harbin, the capital city of Heilongjiang. There are the most typical and perfect vestiges of modern volcanic eruption in China, and the world- known volcano-related mineral spring water.
This award has been given out by UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere Program since 1989, helping to further research on ecosystems, natural resources and biodiversity. A documentary about Wudalianchi was shown at a ceremony, allowing the audience to appreciate its ample ecosystem, in which innovative solutions have been presented to tackle problems related to environmental conservation, ecology and sustainable development.
