The China Great Wall Museum at Badaling in Beijing’s Yanqing district reopened for trial operation on October 24, 2026, following a major renovation that began in April 2022. With free admission during the trial period, the upgraded museum offers visitors an opportunity to explore the history, cultural heritage and significance of the Great Wall while visiting one of China's most famous landmarks.
Covering approximately 16,000 square meters, the renovated museum features exhibitions showcasing more than 700 artifacts from 24 museums across China. Its architecture draws inspiration from the Great Wall’s fortifications and mountain ridges, while a glass curtain wall on the second floor provides panoramic views of the Badaling section.
During the trial operation, the museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, with last admission at 4:30 p.m. It is closed on Tuesdays except public holidays. Daily attendance is limited to 4,000 visitors on a first-come, first-served basis, and reservations are not required. Visitors must bring valid identification documents, and children aged 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
The reopening adds another cultural attraction to the Badaling Great Wall area, allowing travelers to combine a visit to the historic fortifications with a deeper understanding of their history and heritage. The museum provides an additional stop for international visitors exploring Beijing’s cultural landmarks.
