The exhibition area of the Cultural Relics Protection Center at the Grand Canal Museum of Beijing will soon open to the public. Cultural relic restorers are stepping out from behind the scenes to showcase relic conservation technologies and demonstrate traditional restoration techniques.

Fu Meng, Deputy Director of the Conservation Department at the Capital Museum, explained that as the city’s largest visual cultural relics protection center, the Grand Canal Museum of Beijing Cultural Relics Protection Center has innovatively established a comprehensive restoration studio with exhibition functions. Through methods such as panoramic displays of conservation workspaces and on-site multi-sensory interactive experiences, it will guide visitors in exploring the mysteries of cultural relics preservation and allow them to witness the ‘dedicated guardianship’ of cultural heritage experts.

In the exhibition area, visitors can not only learn basic knowledge of cultural relics restoration through guided explanations but also personally experience calligraphy and painting restoration techniques. In another comprehensive restoration studio, visitors can gain an up-close understanding of the restoration techniques used for organic cultural relics such as calligraphy, paintings, and textiles. Cultural relic restorers will combine technological means with traditional techniques to extend the ‘lifespan’ of cultural relics to the greatest extent.
