Even though Hello Kitty is a Japanese character, visitors will be able to find it in Hainan.

To turn Hainan into an international tourism resort by 2025, Chinese company Funde Holding Group Co., Ltd and Sanrio (Shanghai) International Trade Co., Ltd reach a co-operational agreement in constructing Hello Kitty theme park in Sanya's Haitang Bay, the most popular beach city in Hainan. A theme park, a hotel and shopping facilities will be included in the attraction.

According to Pan Jiade, chairman of Funde Holding Group Co., Ltd. It is predicted that about 2 million tourists will visit the park each year after it’s grand opening in 2024.

Hainan is a potential city in the tourism industry, with official data showed that more than 38.6 million tourists spent their vacations in Hainan in the first half of 2019, increasing stably year after year. The government is now stepping up efforts to ease restrictions on its offshore duty-free policy and develop cross-border cruise tourism.
