National Museum of China opens Suzhou-style furniture exhibition

National Museum of China opens the exhibition of Suzhou-style furniture recently. The exhibition shows the wood furniture creative by an artisan - Han Jianxian, who been working as an artisan for more than 20years. More than 20 redwood pieces of furniture made by Han are on shown in the museum in Beijing which will last until May 19th.

 

Han Jianxian says that the craft of classic Chinese furniture composes of four parts - material, technique, cultural tradition and artistic value. He also emphasis that each part of the furniture is irreplaceable, which are like the four legs that support a chair.  Han's works exemplifies the refined techniques and designs of the Suzhou-style of furniture that dates as far back as the Song (960-1279) and Yuan (1271-1368) dynasties.

 

Han Jianxian is a native of historic and picturesque in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. He has been carrying on the rich legacies of Suzhou-style furniture making for many years. His furniture works are famous for its exquisite craftsmanship and elegant designs, which makes it a distinguished category of classic Chinese furniture.
