In a significant move to enhance the comfort of high-altitude travel, Lhoka (Shannan) has successfully established itself as the first prefecture-level city in Xizang to offer full-process oxygen enrichment for travelers. Following a strategic provincial initiative, local authorities have implemented a comprehensive supply model that combines fixed and mobile oxygen facilities across scenic spots and major travel routes. This innovative infrastructure is designed to address the challenges of altitude sickness, making the region more accessible and welcoming for inbound tourism seekers who wish to explore the plateau’s unique landscapes without physical discomfort.

The “oxygen network” strategically covers essential nodes, including tourist attractions, hotels, and key transportation corridors like the G219 national highway. Currently, Lhoka has deployed 22 oxygen supply points, 35 fixed oxygen generators with 184 outlets, and 70 portable devices available at five pick-up stations. For those engaged in inbound tourism, this system offers both free-to-use fixed oxygen stations and affordable portable machines, ensuring a steady supply of oxygen in various scenarios. By bridging the gap between convenience and sustainable operation, the city has created a seamless oxygen corridor that supports long-distance exploration and overnight stays.

The successful rollout of this project marks a new era for tourism development in Xizang, prioritizing visitor well-being and satisfaction. Moving forward, Lhoka plans to eliminate service gaps along all major tourist routes, further integrating high-tech life support systems with traditional hospitality. Industry analysts suggest that this infrastructure upgrade will significantly boost the competitiveness of the Southwest China travel market, particularly for international groups sensitive to high-altitude environments. As the region continues to modernize its facilities, Lhoka stands as a benchmark for high-quality, safe, and professional inbound tourism services on the Roof of the World.
