The 23rd Macao Arts Festival to Open in May

Under the slogan of ‘Enjoy Life through Art’, the 23rd Macao Arts Festival (MAF) is to be held between May 1 and June 2, said Ung Vai Meng, President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).

 

The Festival is an annual event held in Macao during the month of May, which consistently enriches the cultural and artistic life of residents as well as visitors. Featuring 128 performances by 33 acts from 8 different countries this year including Portugal, Spain, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, the USA, Argentina and mainland China, the MAF actively promotes the arts and artistic education, in an effort to encourage residents to engage in artistic activities and welcome the arts into their daily lives. It is the largest number of performances ever for this event.

 

According to the Bureau, major highlights of the Festival includes the Beijing Opera show ‘Su Wu of the Han Dynasty’ by the China National Beijing Opera Theatre, a new version of Cantonese Opera of the classic, poignant love tragedy, ‘Dream of the Red Chamber’, the American Mark Morris Dance Group's Mozart Dances, local drama, new multi-media theater.
