In a major boost for international tourism and business, China has implemented a unilateral visa-waiver policy for citizens of 47 countries. Eligible travelers can now visit China for up to 30 days without a visa for purposes such as business, tourism, visiting family and friends, cultural exchanges, and transit.
Here is the checklist for travelers’ reference.
You can visit China without a visa if you:
Hold a valid ordinary passport from one of the 47 eligible countries.
Stay in China for no more than 30 days.
Travel for tourism, business, visiting family/friends, cultural exchange, or transit.
Key points to remember:
Start counting: Your 30-day stay begins the day after your arrival.
Entry points: All open airports, seaports, and land border crossings are fine.
Group or solo: Both are allowed.
Documents to bring: Passport, return ticket, hotel booking, and any invitation letter (if applicable).
Visa required: Working, studying, or journalistic activities.
What if…
You lose your passport? Contact your embassy and China’s border control immediately.
You want to stay longer? You must apply for a visa in advance or a stay permit after arrival for special cases.
