Themed as “Celebrating at World Third Pole, Winter Tourism Festival at Tibet”, the First Yangbajain Hot Spring Tourism Season opened in Yangbajain Town in Damxung County, Lhasa, on January 3rd. The opening of the tourism season attracts a large amount of tourists from home and abroad.

During the opening ceremony, several activities were showed to the public. The water yoga performance, kayaking performance, and Tibetan dance performance bring warmth and cheers to the winter days in Tibet.

Yangbajain (also spelled Yangbajing) is a town approximately 87 kilometers north-west of Lhasa, halfway to Damxung in the Tibet Autonomous Region. Yangbajain boasts rich tourism resources of hot springs, glaciers, wetlands, snow mountains and lakes. In November, 2018, the local government also promoted relevant preferential policy to help boost the winter tourism in Tibet.

The Yangbajain hot springs field locates at an altitude of 4,290 to 4,500 meters which makes it the highest altitude set of hot springs in China, and possibly in the world. The highest temperature inside the drilling hole is 125.5°C. In the early morning, when the weather is still cold, above the hots pring always permeates heavy white mirage, which makes the hot spring looking like the wonderland.
