Shaoxing opens Chinese Calligraphy Cultural Festival

On April 10th, the 35th Chinese Calligraphy Cultural Festival opens in Shaoxing. Established in 1985, Shaoxing organizes the cultural festival to memorialize the gathering. After 35 years, it has gradually become a comprehensive platform for promoting the art of calligraphy and at the same time making the publicity to Shaoxing's cultural attractions.

 

At the opening ceremony of this year’s calligraphy festival, more than 1,000 guests from the fields of culture, tourism, media and economic took part and admired the music and dance performances on the ceremony. Later during the festival, a series of cultural activities will be staged to the public, which includes calligraphy exhibitions, calligraphy competition, and seminars on appreciating the calligraphy works.

 

Shaoxing locates in the north part of Zhejiang Province. It is an ancient city with rich calligraphy culture, which is famous around the world. During the Eastern Jin Dynasty (AD 317-420), Chinese calligrapher Wang Xizhi (AD 303-361) created the famous literature work - Lanting Xu. Shaoxing is also renowned for abundant tourism resources, such as Lu Xun Former Residence, Shaoxing Old Town, and Orchid Pavilion.
