Hong Kong Palace Museum to open in 2022

Hong Kong will open a branch of the Palace Museum in 2022. It will become a prominent landmark on the waterfront of Victoria Harbor. The collections in the Palace Museum are the essence of Chinese culture and the treasures of human civilization. Visitors will enjoy long-term opportunities to appreciate the exquisite artifacts from Beijing’s Palace Museum.

 

On May 28th, the ground-breaking ceremony for the Hong Kong Palace Museum was held at the West Kowloon Cultural District. Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, the chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government said that Hong Kong Palace Museum will display the cultural treasures of the Forbidden City and will greatly help Hong Kong's cultural undertakings.

 

The gallery space of the museum will cover 7,600 square meters. It will display gold, bronze and jade items, paintings, ceramic objects, as well as the life in the Imperial Court. A 400-seat lecture theater, activity rooms, a restaurant and shops are also included inside.

  

The Hong Kong Palace Museum will enrich people’s cultural life and strength the cultural communications as well. The Palace Museum and Hong Kong will collaborate on more aspects such as multi-media and cultural creativity in the future. Hong Kong will go on enhancing its international metropolis position through providing more premium activities to the world.
