Beijing Wangfujing Pedestrian Street to extend over 300 meters

Beijing Wangfujing Pedestrian Street is one of the most prosperous commercial zones in the central part of Beijing. According to the Dongcheng District Government, this 100-year-old pedestrian street will be extended northward for 344 meters this year.

 

The extension project will be carried out in stages. At the same time, the construction of the new businesses along the street will also started, and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2019. The 548-meter long Wangfujing Pedestrian Street, as part of the 1,818-meter Wangfujing Street, will be 892 meters long after the extension work.

 

The planned extension of the Wangfujing Pedestrian Street will offer more public space for entertainment and cultural development, said by Lv Hui, the deputy director of Wangfujing region's management office.

 

Since the middle of the Ming Dynasty, there have been commercial activities in Wangfujing. Beijing Wangfujing Pedestrian Street is the most well-known and prosperous shopping street with modern and fashion trends. With the influx of more flagship stores of international brands, nowadays Wangfujing region is seeking to go global while preserving its cultural heritage.
