After five years’ construction, the Longjiang Grand Bridge, connecting the cities of Baoshan and Tengchong in southwestern China's Yunnan province, will open to traffic on May 1, 2016.
With a length of 8,100 feet (2470 meters), the new suspension bridge is Asia's longest and highest of its kind. The new bridge hovers at a nail biting 920 feet (280 meter) above the valley below. It is also the tallest of its kind to be built across two mountains in Asia. The central span of the bridge, which is the distance between the two main towers, will measure 3,924 feet (1,196 meter) and is only slightly shorter than that of the famous Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
Tengchong is a small border county in Yunnan Province. The geographical location of Tengchong is of great importance, which is necessary to enter Burma from southwestern China.
