Chengdu Tianfu International Airport terminal takes shape

The main construction work on Terminal 2 of Chengdu Tianfu International Airport was completed on August 28th, 60 days ahead of schedule. The new airport is located in Lujia Town in Chengdu. It is the second airport in Chengdu and also aims to become an international flight hub.

 

Terminal 2 covers a building area of 330,000 square meters, with five floors above ground and two underground. About 610,000 cubic meters of concrete was used during construction of the structure. This terminal will also be linked to the high-speed railways, and the speeds of which can be reached to 350 kilometers per hour.

 

The construction work started from May 27, 2016. The first phase of construction work involves Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, which are designed to meet the target of handling 40 million passengers, 700,000 tones of cargo, and 320,000 aircraft a year.

 

Sichuan Province is also known as Tianfu in the history. It reflects its role as the food basket of China. The new airport is also a flagship project to support the development of Tianfu New Area, designed as an international, livable city backed by sustainable industrial development. The new airport aims to put into use by 2021.
