The renovation work of Labrang Monastery to be completed

After nearly eight years of the large-scale renovations, the main renovation projects of 14 Buddhist temples in Northwest China's Gansu Province have almost been implemented. The renovation work of Labrang Monastery, also known as the "World Tibetan Academy", will be completed soon in the future.

 

Now the main body and frescos of 14 Buddha halls have been restored. The next step is to renovate two more Buddha halls and recolor the paintings on the columns and other parts of the halls involved in the renovation project. The renovation project began in 2012, up to now, the local government has invested nearly 400 million RMB in the renovation project.

 

Labrang Monastery is located in Xiahe County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu Province, was founded in 1709 and is one of the largest monasteries of the Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. In 1982, it was identified as the National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit. Sprawling across an area of more than 800,000 square meters, Labrang Monastery is famed for its architectures. It currently has six Buddhist colleges, 84 Buddha halls and more than 500 monks' houses.
