Expansion work of Lhasa Gongga International Airport resumes

According to the Lhasa Gongga International Airport, on March 15, the expansion project of the airport had restarted. The expansion work of the airport’s terminal area will be completed by 2020 and put into use in early 2021.

 

The expansion project of Lhasa Gongga International Airport terminal area was started from the end of 2017, with a total investment of 3.907 billion RMB. The expansion project includes the construction of a new 88,000-square-meter T3 terminal building, a 21-station platform, ancillary construction, auxiliary air traffic control, production and living, fire rescue, power supply, water supply and heating facilities.

 

The project now is installing the glass curtain wall of the new terminal and the construction of the steel structure in the core area, making sure to complete the work as scheduled.

 

The expansion project of Lhasa Gongga International Airport Terminal Area is the key construction project of the "13th Five-Year Plan" of the Tibet Autonomous Region. Since the airport’s official opening in 1966, 74 domestic and international routes have been launched. After the completion of the airport expansion project, it will meet the target of 9 million passenger throughput and 80,000 tons of cargo and mail throughput by 2025.
