During the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), Hainan Airlines announced on April 10 that it will open a direct flight between Shenzhen, a major city in Guangdong province and Vienna, the capital and largest city of Austria, which is regarded as the City of Music. This is the third international direct route from Shenzhen to Europe that was announced by Hainan Airlines this year after Brussels and Madrid.

The Austrian President Van der Bellen said at the press conference that after the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1971, Austria and China have reached cooperation in various fields such as tourism, economy and trade, and culture, and have made considerable progress. With the opening of the Shenzhen-Vienna route, it will attract visitors from both Austria and China to make contact between Austria and China more closely.

It is reported that the Shenzhen-Vienna direct flight will use the Boeing 787 Dreamliner to run twice a week, initially from Shenzhen to Vienna on every Thursday and Saturday (01:30 – 07:50) and return from Vienna to Shenzhen on Thursday and Saturday (11:45 – 00:50+1).
