Bita Lake

Situated about 32 kilometers away from Shangri-La in the northwest Yunnan, Bita Lake is regarded as the ‘Pearl on Plateau’ with the altitude of 3,538 meters. Bita Lake in Tibetan means the lake of peace and tranquility. Embraced by luxuriant trees and green mountains, Bita Lake is an emerald, looking glamorous and magnificent under the sunlight.

 

Bitahai Lake and Shudou Lake together form two holy lakes for the local Tibetan inhabitants in the Pudacuo National Park. Not only can visitors to the park take in the stunning natural beauty of the landscape, but also learn something about plateau culture.

 

Bita Lake is a place with abundant natural resources and rich cultural connotations. There is a beautiful legend about the lake. It is said that Bita Lake is the most gorgeous piece of mirror with an emerald that is broken by a goddess in Heaven. A wonderful attraction around Bita Lake is the Tibetan folklore, the primeval forest, the highland meadow, and the highland flowers and plants. Without any pollution, some fish species are preserved in Bita Lake. From May till July, when the azalea falling from the trees with the wind, petals float on the water, attracting plenty of fish. As a result, special scenery of Fish Drunk in Azalea is well renowned.

 

In the center of Bitahai Lake, there is an islet with the shape of a boat sailing in the lake. The islet is 30 meters above the water level. Covered with rare plants including spruces and rhododendrons, the islet is the paradise for animals as well. Here, birds twitter happily and flowers release their pleasant fragrances. It is not only a feast to the eye, but also enhances our sense of beauty and our imagination.
