Lijiang weather is generally mild, with abundant rainfall and plenty of sunshine. It has an average annual temperature between 13 C (55 F) and 20 C (68 F). In summer, the temperature ranges from 10 to 26 C (50 - 79 F). Coming to winter, the weather is still as warm as spring for most of the days. Summer and autumn are the best seasons when the weather is really comfortable for outings.
Lijiang rainy season begins in May and ends in October. And the heaviest and most recurrent rainfall periods comes during July and August. Some locals even say that they can set their clocks according to the rainy season. The best times to visit Lijiang are from late March to May and mid-October to November.
Spring from March to May is generally comfortable with clear weather, blue sky and plenty of flower blossoms. Jade Dragon Snow Mountain can be seen from almost every corner of the city. The average temperature is 17 °C (63 °F). It’s better to prepare long-sleeve shirt, thick sweater and coat.
Summer comes from June to September is always warm with plenty of rain. However it is necessary to take warm cloth if you plan to pay a visit to mountain area. Sunlight is strong in summer, it’s better to tale sun protection such as hats, sunglasses and sun block.
Autumn from October to November is considered the most charming and comfortable season. Dry and clear, with verdant trees and blossoms. Rainfall is rare by mid-October. Temperature between day and night varies greatly; usually it feels chilly during the night. Bring long-sleeve shirts, light sweater and coat.
Winter lasts from December to February. Temperature in winter generally range from 0℃-15℃. Visiting the Tiger Leaping Gorge is a good choice. Lijiang is not that touristy in winter, so that the cost is relatively lower than other seasons.
In Lijiang, there are numerous bars and teahouses where you can spend a leisure time. Most of western-style bars are gathered in Xinyi Street. Generally speaking, most bars in Lijiang are located in the bar-street which stretches from the upper section of Dongda Street to Sifang Street. Except for bars, there are also many teahouses which are operated by people from other parts of China. The owners moved to Lijiang to enjoy the warm sunshine, fresh air and peaceful life.
